Where are you Located?

 

Q:Where is the studio? We are located at 1509 Mission Street in South Pasadena. 

Q:Where can I park? Our studio is adjacent to a free public parking lot with ample space. There is also free parking on all blocks surrounding the studio! If you need to drop off something heavy you can pull right up to our back door :).

Q:Do you have any other locations? No, we are very busy establishing our first location in South Pasadena.  

Q:Where should I enter? If you are coming for your first class or a one off class please enter through our front door on Mission St. Members may use the back door which faces the parking lot as well as the front door. For wheelchair access please use our front door on Mission St. 

General Studio FAQ

 

Q:What type of kilns do you have? We use electric kilns and fire all bisque work to cone 06 and all glaze work to cone 5. 

Q:What equipment do you provide? Our studio is equipped with 13 Pacifica GT-400 pottery wheels, a Blue Star slab roller, a clay extruder, and hand building work tables.

Q:Do you have clay for sale?  We carry and sell select Laguna Clay Company cone 5 clays. You can purchase in store during our business hours. You can view them by navigating to our Studio Shop page as well. 

Q:What glazes do you have? We currently have 14 cone 5 glazes available to students and members. 

Membership FAQ

Q: What is the minimum commitment for memberships? We require a two month minimum commitment for memberships. 

Q: Can I request a tour of the studio if I am interested in memberships or classes? Yes! Please email us at info@nicksceramicsstudio.com to schedule a tour of our space. 

Q: Can I fire my work at the studio if I don't have a membership? We have a lower cost membership designed for those who make their work in a home studio. Our "Outside Firing" Membership is $100 a month and includes access to our glazes and glazing area. 

Q: Do members need to provide their own tools? We recommend members do provide their own tools, but we have limited communal use tools available. we also have specialty tools such as heat guns, plaster molds, and carving tools available to check out during studio business hours.

Q: if I'm a member can I bring in a friend? All members have one free guest pass per month. After the free guest pass is used you can pay $25 for an additional guest pass.

Q: If I cancel my membership but I need to finish glazing what do I do? Once you end your membership you have a two week grace period to finish glazing all your work. You may not make any new work during this time.

Q: Is the studio dog friendly? All members are welcome to bring a well behaved dog with them (with some conditions on behavior) We ask that no more than two dogs be in the studio at a time. We have more information on our dog policies in the members agreement. 

Q: Is the studio child friendly? Yes, you are welcome to bring along your kids occasionally. Please be mindful of the studio environment if they are being disruptive, please take them home for the day.

Kids FAQ

 

Q:When does your next session of afterschool begin? Our next session begins March 3rd. Registration is now open. Please navigate to the Kids Afterschool page for more information. 

Q: Do you offer parties? We offer private lessons and lessons for groups of 5-10. These are available for adults and kids ages 6-14. We have options for the wheel as well as hand-building. For more information please navigate to our Private Groups page.

Q:Do you offer school pickups for your After-school Program? Currently we do not offer school pickups for our program.

Adult Classes FAQ

Q:What comes with my 6 or 8 week class?  Students signed up for a 6 or 8 week class get unlimited studio access from 10am-10pm outside of class time, unlimited clay, firing of 6 pieces, and use of all our studio tools and equipment. 

Q:Do I need to bring my own tools to class? As a student in any of our programming you do not need to bring your own pottery tools, we provide all tools and materials necessary for class. We do not provide aprons or hand towels, so we do recommend bringing in your own to class.  

Q:How long do you keep my unfired work after my class ends? All students not continuing to the next session must finish trimming all work by the last day of class. All work left on the class shelves after the last class will be recycled.

Students continuing to the next session may keep their unfired work, as long as it is labeled CONTINUING STUDENT. 

Q:How long do you keep my bisque ware and my finished glazed pieces? We hold onto all bisque and glaze work for 2 months. After 2 months all work is donated.

Q: Do you offer makeup classes? At this time we do not offer makeup classes, if you need to miss a class be sure to utilize your unlimited open studio access that week to get some extra practice time in. 

Q: I can no longer take the class I signed up for. Can I get a refund? At this time we can only offer you a refund if you cancel before the class begins AND there is a waitlist for the the class you registered for. 

Workshops FAQ

Q:Can I Come in to finish my work if I attended a workshop?  If you are in a one day workshop you will finish the project during the session. The studio will fire and glaze your work for you and your pieces will be ready for pickup in about two weeks. 

Q: How do I know when my work is finished if I attended a workshop? It takes 2-3 weeks to fire all work after it has been glazed. You will get an email when your work is complete and ready to be picked up. 

Q:Do I need to have experience with clay to take a workshop? It Depends on the workshop. We will have various levels of workshops and it will always be clearly stated in the class description if experience is necessary or not.

One Day Classes FAQ

Q:When Can I pick up my work? For all one day classes we glaze and finish your work. It will be ready for pickup roughly two weeks from the day you took the class. We will send you an email when your work is completed. 

Q:How long do you hold onto pieces? We hold all one off class work for 30 days after your email notification that the work has been completed.
