Sustainability

Nick's Studio is committed to sustainable studio practices, were not perfect but we are doing our best! Here's what we're doing to lighten our footprint.

  • We recycle all of our clay in house! Clay can be used over and over again up until the point it has been fired. We teach our students how to recycle their own clay so they can create in the most sustainable way possible. We also encourage our members to recycle their own clay.
  • We purchase as much of our equipment, materials, tools, and office supplies locally as we can.
  • Much of our equipment was purchased second hand - our small kiln, slab roller, extruder, glaze tables, buckets and lots of our shelving was purchased second hand. Our Pacifica GT-400 pottery wheels are all made here in LA at Laguna Clay Company.
  • We reuse our clay bags and other plastic until it can no longer be used.
  • We make our own natural cleaning solution for our floors and surfaces.
  • We use rinse buckets and basins for cleaning tools  to cut down on our water usage.
  • We keep our paper towel usage low by providing communal hand drying towels and encouraging members and students to bring in their own. We also sell hand towels for $3 in our studio shop.
  • We recycle and compost thanks to the new commercial waste and recycling program in South Pas.
  • We have a water bottle refilling station.
  • We incorporate lessons about sustainability in our kids program.
